The Department of Education, through Working Together to Safeguard Children (DfE 2018) and Keeping Children Safe in Education (DfE 2023), places a duty on organisations to safeguard and promote the well-being of children and young people. At Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School we are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our students.
Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School takes its Safeguarding and Child Protection responsibilities very seriously. We work closely with the local authority and other appropriate external agencies to ensure the welfare of all our students in and out of school. In the interest of safeguarding students there may be occasions when the school has to consult other agencies without a parent’s prior knowledge. The school’s first concern is the child’s welfare and the school has a duty to act to protect the child at all times. Such consultation may result in a formal referral which could prompt visits from social services and/or the police.
A Safeguarding and Health and Safety Advice leaflet is provided to every visitor and anyone on request from the office.
