Post 16 Bursary

The 16 to 19 Bursary Fund is a limited Fund, made available by the Education and Skills Agency (ESFA), to enable schools to provide financial support to help students overcome specific barriers to participation so they can remain in education.

To qualify for a 16-19 Bursary, applicants must be over 16 and under 19 at the start of the academic year, enrolled within the sixth form and satisfy the government’s residency criteria.

Vulnerable Student Bursary:

You are entitled to apply for the Vulnerable Student Bursary of up to £1,200 per year if:·

  • You are in receipt of Income Support or Universal Credit in your own right
  • You are a care leaver or currently looked after in care
  • You are in receipt of both Employment Support Allowance or Universal Credit and Disability Living Allowance

16-19 Discretionary Bursary:

You are entitled to apply for a Discretionary Bursary if:

  • You are in receipt of Free School Meals
  • Your household is in receipt of Universal Credit
  • Your household is in receipt of Income Support / Working Tax Credit / Pensions Guarantee
  • Your household is in Support under Part IV of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

Evidence of eligibility will be required upon application, for example, award notice of Universal Credit.

The level of award and method of distribution will vary but standard practice will be the provision of bus passes, vouchers for clothing / stationary and school subsidy of Chrome books, resources and trips. Once your application has been approved, the level of award will be confirmed to you by email.

It is important to note that the 16-19 Discretionary Bursary Fund is extremely limited. The school is under no obligation to make payments and failure to comply with the terms of the Attendance Policy and/or the Sixth Form Contract will result in further funding not being available.

Application Form:

To apply, please complete the following online application, uploading the necessary evidence, by 30th September:

Additional Support:

Students assessed as eligible for a bursary may also apply on an item by item basis for support towards educational trips, the Duke of Edinburgh scheme

and other resources usually purchased through school and/or reimbursement for other ad-hoc expenses to further their education, e.g. travel to open days or interviews etc.

Please note, these requests will be considered on an item by item basis, taking account of total financial awards made and attendance and behaviour records.

To apply, please use the following online form, uploading receipts and/or other relevant evidence as requested.
